For transparency on where I might be biased

I try fairly hard to write this newsletter with a neutral perspective towards the companies mentioned. However, I am a product of the experiences I’ve had and the people I’ve worked with, so some bias is inevitable.

If you believe my bias clouds my judgement, call me out! I’m willing to eat crow when I’m wrong.

With that, below is a list of places I’ve worked and companies I’ve invested in, either directly or indirectly. This page will be updated periodically, but not re-posted in the newsletter feed.

Previous Employers

  • Strategic Education Inc: Current employer. Owner of 2 large, online, for-profit universities in the US, 1 in Australia, Sophia, and Hackbright/Dev Mountain coding bootcamps. Nothing I write here reflects the views or business strategies of SEI unless explicitly noted

  • Cengage: One of the largest textbook publishers in the world, with a large market share in US HED. While I still have friends and mentors at Cengage, it’s been almost 3 years since I worked there and I have no special insights into their business strategies

  • Fullbridge: V1.0 bootcamp focused on basic business skills training (hard and soft). Now mostly-defunct, but still a good idea someone should build! Also, a team that continues(!) to provide mentorship to me today

SEI Ventures Investments

  • Riipen

  • Motivo

  • Nursedash

  • NextStep

  • Osmosis

  • Motimatic

  • Ecree

Angel Investments

  • Nectir

  • Argos Education
